It has been quite some time since I have posted on this website. I created the site to allow concerned citizens of Zambia to see what progress there has been in eliminating the devastating problem in the fuelwood (charcoal and firewood) industry of Zambia. As of today hundreds of citizens have come forward to show an interest in my concept. Most are willing to volunteer their time to create community forests and to start the ball rolling. I have also been encouraged by the professional sector of Zambia (foresters, environmentalists, educators and many others). Full stop!
But not a peep from your government. They the (Minister of Green Economy and Environment) have been presented with a copy of the concept and I have even offered my time free to the people of Zambia. No response. Yes, I do understand that they (the Government) is just trying to get their feet on the ground but it is frustrating to read headlines like ‘the District of Mpongwe is losing 6,000 trees a month to charcoal making’.
